If ever on any unfortunate day, you feel like having Jerry’s BBQ & Grill, decide to go to Soul Out instead. Driving to Soul Out (you can only get there reasonably by wheels, not bus not taxi not train otherwise you’d have problems finding your way home), is not unlike the speculative journey of navigating remote, unlit roads at Seletar Airbase. They’ve got pretty amazing hot wings too.
We know this place is close to Ericsson’s Pet Farm – but we always still gotta make a series of turns and U-turns before we actually find it. Ironically, I find it partly exciting that we have to hunt for our food.
The motivation is simple. $45 for 4 crabs & 4 bottles of beer. You heard that right… now take a while to digest the information.
All right, so that night the promotion wasn’t available but we still got 3 Butter crabs for $52 and they turned out mighty fabulous. Mostly outdoor seats for beer-drinking and loud laughter with no need to take note of any p’s & q’s.
We also had an assortment of Tze-char dishes that were well-done. Their sambal specialties – which you can choose with prawns, asparagus, kang kong, sotong or clams, is good enough for any veteran chilli-eater. Ooh, and the curry fish head blows.
Not a place to go to often because it’s a pain to get to – but if you need to wind down from a long day of work – as I have, the distance helps. Eating cheap and good crabs away from the city district is a therapy in itself. Will be back.
